Shabbat at AI

Join the AI family for a full Shabbat experience every week.

Welcome and join the Agudath Israel community - In prayer, in study and in acts of kindness.

As Abraham and Sarah kept the walls of their tent open so travelers could easily enter, at Agudath Israel we open our 'tent' to all interested in Judaism and help people find a comfortable and challenging place inside.

We value the wisdom and inspiration of Jewish tradition, but recognize the need for ongoing change within the parameters of the Conservative movement. Our members come from diverse religious backgrounds. Our programs and services for adults and children are rich and varied. Men and women participate equally in all aspects of the synagogue.More about us

NEXT EVENT SCHEDULED:

AGUDATH ISRAEL & MACHZIKEI HADAS'S ADULT ED. COMMITTEES  continues their lecture series with:

Dr. Nora Gold

April 19th, 2015 at 7:30 p.m.

"Fiction-Activism: Fighting anti-Israelism through "Fields of Exile":

The first novel about anti-Israelism on Campus.

  “Academic Powerhouse, World Activist”

To say that Dr Nora Gold is a powerhouse is to understate the case.

Dr Gold is a highly respected academic in the fields of social work and research. She has served on dozens of boards and committees from the Autism Society of Canada to the Canadian Jewish Congress, from work as an expert for the Ontario Hate Crimes Commission to co-founding the New Israel Fund of Canada and foundingJewishfiction.net, the prestigious online literary journal. She has enormous breadth of experience.

Dr Gold’s new novel is both timely and an excellent and entertaining read. Fields of Exile tells the story of Judith, a Canadian graduate student whose experience on campus reveals that, “vilification of Israel is the expected norm.” The novel has received extremely enthusiastic reviews and is described as, “a moving story of love, betrayal, and the courage to stand up for what one believes. It delivers a searing indictment of the hypocrisy and intellectual sloth that threaten the integrity of our society.” She presents strong material for difficult times.

AGUDATH ISRAEL'S ADULT ED COMMITTEE AND THE A.H. LIEFF CULTURAL FUND PROUDLY PRESENT:

"WOMEN, SCHOLARSHIP AND JUDAISM" - A THREE PART SERIES

PROF. ADELE REINHARTZ, U. of O. - "HOLY WORDS OF HOLLYWOOD"

“Holy words of Hollywood   Prof. Reinhartz  focuses on the epic Bible films of the 1950s which used the Hebrew Bible much as the Puritans did in an earlier era: as a prophecy of America’s role on the world stage. This talk paper concentrates on Cecil B. DeMille’s classic 1956 film “The Ten Commandments” as a Cold War manifesto which refashions Moses as a Jesus-like redeemer figure who symbolizes the American struggle against the “Red Menace” and concludes with reflections on films made after the Vietnam War, which are much more critical of America’s role in foreign affairs.
