Shabbat at AI

Join the AI family for a full Shabbat experience every week.

Welcome and join the Agudath Israel community - In prayer, in study and in acts of kindness.

As Abraham and Sarah kept the walls of their tent open so travelers could easily enter, at Agudath Israel we open our 'tent' to all interested in Judaism and help people find a comfortable and challenging place inside.

We value the wisdom and inspiration of Jewish tradition, but recognize the need for ongoing change within the parameters of the Conservative movement. Our members come from diverse religious backgrounds. Our programs and services for adults and children are rich and varied. Men and women participate equally in all aspects of the synagogue.More about us

INTRODUCING THE NEW YOUTH PROGRAM DIRECTOR ~ Emily Anzarouth

I am excited to join Agudath Israel as the new Youth Director! I recently graduated from Queen’s University with a Bachelor of Arts, Honours degree in Sociology. I grew up in Ottawa, attending Shabbat services at Agudath Israel regularly with my family and celebrated my Bat Mitzvah here in 2005. I was actively involved in both the Kadima and USY programs throughout elementary and high school, and over the past four years have acted as the Nursery Coordinator for the High Holidays. I am eager to see the Youth Department continue to grow and thrive! Please do not hesitate to get in touch if you would like some more information on what the upcoming year holds for the Youth Department - I can be contacted at youth@agudathisrael.net.

A note from our New Youth Director ~ Emily Anzarouth

High Holidays are just around the corner! The Youth Department will be running the nursery and services for children up to grade 8. Programs will feature tefilot, songs, stories, and games, and will allow children to learn about Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur in a fun and interactive setting. All those interested in helping with the nursery and youth services are encouraged to submit their names and previous experience to Emily Anzarouth, Youth Director, at youth@agudathisrael.net by August 7th.

TWO CONGREGATIONS ~ ONE MINYAN

AGUDATH ISRAEL  &  CONGREGATION BETH SHALOM!

Since Sunday July 26, 2015, our two  (Agudath Israel & Congregation Beth Shalom) daily minyanim have become one.

This unified daily minyan takes place for shacharit and mincha/ma'ariv Sundays through Thursday and on Friday mornings in our Max and Lillian David Chapel at the usual times:

·       Shacharit: 7:30 a.m. weekdays, 8:30 a.m. Sunday and holidays. (15 minutes earlier on Rosh Chodesh)

·       Mincha/Ma'ariv: 6 p.m.

On August 15th, Agudath Israel and Congregation Beth Shalom will come together for what we hope is the first of a number of joint services leading up to the formal amalgamation next summer.  While Rav Barry will be in Israel for his son’s wedding that week, Cantor Daniel Benlolo will lead davening with the full liturgy we currently use on Shabbat. More information to come!

Agudath Israel Legacy Project

The Board is establishing a Legacy Committee to identify activities and a fitting tribute project that will help us ensure a strong place for the Agudath Israel name in Ottawa and at the same time bring closure to this period of our history and turn the page on a new chapter of our existence together with Beth Shalom. If this is something that interests you please contact Stuart McCarthy (stuartmccarthy@gmail.com) or 613-762-4321 or Executive Director, Ian Borer (ian@agudathisrael.net or 613-728-3501).
